Cheyenne Stevens meets Rowdy Dixon in Las Vegas at a moment when both of their lives are falling apart. Rowdy is a charismatic Oklahoma cowboy determined to build a future in the professional bucking bull business. Cheyenne sees the man beneath the cowboy bravado and believes they can create something extraordinary together.

Leaving behind the security of her former life, Cheyenne follows Rowdy to Freedom, Oklahoma, where she invests her heart, money and future in his struggling ranch. Together, they raise professional bucking bulls and begin transforming the property into a Western destination complete with an arena, lodge, restaurant and guest ranch.

As their dream grows, so do the pressures threatening their relationship. Rowdy’s ambition is matched by pride, recklessness, addiction and a capacity for betrayal. Their love is real, but love may not be enough to save them.

Charlie, Rowdy’s father, brings wisdom, humor and an enduring connection to the land. Arlene is the emotional center of the family. Wade is a young bull rider struggling to earn his father’s respect, while Cassie brings innocence and heart to a world shaped by adult choices.

Rowdy’s former wife, Maggie, and Sheriff Frank create continuing emotional and external conflict, while the arrival of Ellie McCall in Season Two gives Cheyenne an unexpected source of strength, friendship and wisdom.

Inspired by a Life Lived

Creator, writer and executive producer Anita Waggoner is uniquely positioned to tell this story because she lived it.

​

For thirteen years, Anita owned and operated a ranch in Freedom, Oklahoma, where she and her cowboy partner raised professional bucking bulls, built a lodge, arena and restaurant, and operated a Western guest ranch.

​

The victories, dangers, humor and heartbreak depicted in Freedom are grounded in firsthand experience. This authenticity gives the series a distinctive voice and an intimate understanding of the people, relationships and culture of the contemporary American West.

Development and Recognition

Season One consists of eight completed one-hour episode scripts, supported by a comprehensive series bible, producer deck and long-term story plan.

​

The Freedom television pilot was a Roy W. Dean Grant finalist and an Outstanding Screenplays semifinalist. The project has received additional awards and recognition across its television, feature film and short screenplay formats.
